Where are the best stores in Brisbane to pick up some new (or old) vinyl? We’ve put together this list of the city’s leading record stores to help you feed your vinyl cravings!

Rocking Horse Records

Rocking Horse Records (www.rockinghorse.net) has been an icon for Brisbane music lovers for almost 40 years. They’re seriously passionate about music and inside the store you’ll find not just a huge selection of records but CDs, collector’s items, T-shirts, books, magazines, posters and more.

Butter Beats

Butter Beats (www.butterbeatsrecordstore.com) is smaller than Rocking Horse, but does away with the CDs to focus on vinyl, tees, books and street art supplies. The staff are into their music and street art, and the selection is focused on collectables, fuk, soul, jazz, reggae, punk and…well, just ask! If they don’t have it, they’ll get it!

Egg Records

Egg Records (www.eggrecordsonline.com ) sell new and second hand vinyl alongside CDs, DVDs, tees and some quirky music collectibles. They’re obsessive about quality so the pre-loved LPs are all in excellent condition. You won’t find much filler here, it’s all about the music. They buy and trade too – bring your classics and take some new ones home.

Jet Black Cat

Just across from Egg Records, Jet Black Cat (no website but a Facebook page) have been doing their thing since 1982 when vinyl was, well…it. Very indie and alternative, they’re also very committed and will get in anything that you’re hunting for. They do vinyl as well as CDs,  music merchandise and the occasional live gig and listening party.

The Record Exchange

The mecca of pre-loved vinyl, The Record Exchange (www.recordexchange.com.au) allegedly holds the largest collection of LPs in the southern hemisphere. It certainly feels like it when you’re in there, and we’d recommend setting aside a couple of hours to wend your way through the masses of albums on offer. It’s a place to stumble on a classic, hidden gem or just a reminder of long gone days.

Tym Guitars

It’s a music shop first and foremost but a damn fine record shop too. Tym Guitars (www.tymguitars.com.au/collections/vinyl) have an awesome range of vintage guitars and gear for musos but those that just want to listen to quality vinyl will not be disappointed. New and pre-loved titles a-plenty.
