DIG Music Becomes ‘Triple J For Grown-Ups’

This week a new digital radio station was born – DIG Music. While the ABC’s DIG has been around for years, its programming is now being run by Triple J, with the targeted demographic being the 30-50 crowd that grew up on Triple J (or Double J for the oldies!).

DIG Music

What you’ll hear on DIG is very different to what you’d hear on Triple J (whose demographic is primarily 18-24 year-olds). You won’t get much Dubstep, but you also won’t get the dull middle-of-the-road stuff that commercial channels targeting the same demographic serve up. DIG will play 75% new releases, and will have regular guest programming spots from the likes of Billy Bragg, Sarah Blasko, Moby and Clare Bowditch.

Best of all, you get the chance to shape what DIG will sound like – over the next 6 months you can hit a ‘Dig it’ button when listening on a mobile or desktop to flag the tracks you’d like to hear more of. The station will learn what its users like and, like the smart streaming music apps, will gradually become better and better (unless, of course, you’re a big Dubstep fan!).

How to listen to DIG Music

1) You can visit digmusic.net.au on your desktop, tablet or phone and hit ‘Listen Live’

2) You can download the ABC Music app from the Apple App Store or Google Play

3) You can tune in on a DAB Digital Radio (scan for DIG Music)

4) You can tune in on your internet radio (search for DIG Music)

5) You can listen through your digital television (channel 200)

We’re big fans of the streaming music services like Pandora, MOG and the rest, but sometimes is good to listen to someone else’s programming so you don’t end up hearing the same songs over and over.

DIG Music shows real promise to become our broadcaster of choice, after all, it’s been a little while since we’ve been in Triple J’s demographic. Not that we’re old or anything…!
