Will it be iPad 3, iPad 2S or even iPad 2 HD?

Apple may not even call it iPad 3… from the rumours that are circulating it looks like the product will be an evolution rather than a revolution, so it might be iPad 2S, or even iPad 2HD in a nod to its predicted HD display. So what are the expected features?

Anticipated Features

• The iPad 3 is widely tipped to have a new 2048-by-1536 pixel Retina display. That alone is a big step up from the current model.
• A quad-core A6 processor, up from the current dual core. This will help drive the new display smoothly and provide more grunt for graphics-intensive apps, as well as smoother scrolling and faster web experiences.
• Better cameras are likely to be offered, with a 5- or 8-megapixel rear camera and a Facetime front camera.
• Siri is likely to make an appearance, offering the same voice control as the iPhone 4S.
• The iPad 3 may or may not have 4G LTE capability – the tipsters are in two minds about this, so we’ll have to wait until March 7 to be sure.

iPad 3 Mini?

Apple may launch a 7″ screen version to take on the lower end of the market and Kindle Fire in particular. We may also see the current model retained at a lower price point for the same reason – so if you’re in the market for a cheap tablet, hold on because the competition is really heating up!

What will iPad 3 cost?

Certainly the production costs will be higher if a retina display, quad-core processor and an upgraded battery (to feed the greater power demands of those features) are all included. However Apple have sold a gazillion iPads and have a significant war chest with which to take on the competition so we’re tipping similar pricing to existing models, with iPad 2 continuing at a lower price point.
